About ISLE: The Intercollegiate Sri Lanka Education (ISLE) Program is a one-semester study abroad program run by a consortium of small liberal arts schools. Students travel the country to study the island’s diverse populations and the issues that are unique to each one. They gain a holistic view of Sri Lanka, and can choose to focus on a variety of topics including Gender & Women Studies, Religious Cultures, Environmental Studies, Peace & Conflict Studies, and Traditional Medicine & Public Heath. Throughout the semester, students live with homestay families, learn to speak the local language, and experience unique cultural traditions, foods, arts, and religions. The culmination of the semester is a 4-week immersive independent study project on a topic of choice. ISLE accepts applicants from all majors and strives to provide each individual student with the resources and support that he or she needs to excel academically in a chosen topic of study.
