Hannah Durham (Bard ’15) will be tabling in the Campus Center today to answer your questions about the ISLE program and application process.
The Intercollegiate Sri Lanka Education (ISLE) Program (www.bowdoin.edu/isle/) is a one-semester immersion experience that is ideal for students who want to challenge themselves personally and academically beyond the Bard campus. ISLE combines rigorous language study and academic classes, field trips throughout the island, and homestay accommodations to help students gain the tools to navigate Sri Lanka as cultural insiders and informed researchers. Under the guidance of faculty at the prestigious University of Peradeniya, students will study a range of subjects including Women & Gender Studies, Peace & Conflict Studies, Religions of Sri Lanka, Environmental Studies, Traditional Medicine & Public Health, and more. The program culminates in a one-month independent study project on a topic of the student’s choice.
All majors are encouraged to apply. The diverse liberal arts curriculum, wide network of contacts in various academic fields, and flexibility of the independent study project combine to make ISLE an enriching experience for all students. Whether you are pursuing anthropology, economics, environmental studies, health sciences, literature, or interdisciplinary studies, ISLE offers you a unique, relevant experience that will enrich your academic career.
