"The American View of the Egyptian Revolution: Misreadings and Missed Opportunities"
Five years ago the Arab world experienced a series of historic uprisings that led to initial high expectations and elections, followed by conflicts, coups and the rise of extremists. James Ketterer was in Egypt during much of this time and offers a view of the unfolding situation from the US foreign policy perspective- the misreadings and missed opportunities leading to the current set of challenges across the Middle East. What does this period teach us about the changing structures and processes of the American foreign policy, and how that affects outcomes? And was the Egyptian Revolution truly revolutionary, or something else? More broadly, why have some states in the Middle East and North Africa experienced these uprisings and others have not? Please join us for a reception prior to the event beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Olin Atrium
