Tuesday, September 13, 2016
Olin Language Center, Room 115
4:45 pm – 6:05 pm EDT/GMT-4
What are urban environmental disasters? How natural are they, and to what extent are they caused by human ideations and actions? Why are certain populations more susceptible than others to environmental catastrophes? To what extent can scientific, technological, and engineering advances along with popular thought mediate urban disasters? This colloquium is an invited speaker series, facilitated and supplemented by the instructor that will explore these issues. Guest presenters will address these questions from historical, sociological, cultural, political/policy, economic, and other perspectives; in this way, students will be introduced to a variety of academic disciplinary approaches to environmental and urban studies.4:45 pm – 6:05 pm EDT/GMT-4
