A brief description follows:*Herod the Great*
*II: Herod the King – how to become great*
Last week’s discussion saw Herod emerge as an athletic horseman and hunter, a surprisingly gifted military commander, and an intriguer within Roman
politics. With his marriage to Mariamme, from the family of the high priest, pretensions to royalty became undeniable. Between those pretensions and any hope of their fulfilment Herod’s older brother Phasael posed a major obstacle. The Parthian prince Pacorus, however, launched a war against Judea and Rome that made him the most useful enemy Herod ever had,
insuring that he would be crowned king and proceed to erect a legacy in stone that caused him to be known as “great.”
The presentation will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed by a question and answer period.
Lunch will begin at noon and consist of soup, bread, dessert, and a beverage. The lunch will cost $7.00. Lunch reservations are required by e-mailing
[email protected] or by calling 845-758-7279.
We look forward to seeing all of you this Friday, October 14th.
