Call for Proposals: William C. Mullen Memorial Fund

Bard College is pleased to announce the third and final round of requests for proposals from the William C. Mullen Memorial Fund created by a generous donation from longtime Bard professor, Bill Mullen. This fund is used to promote his legacy through grants to any of Bill's former students to continue their studies in the liberal arts and sciences.Applications will be accepted between now and March 19, 2021. Recipients will be notified in early June.
To apply, please submit a project description (not to exceed 2 pages). The description should address how the project will help to continue your liberal arts studies and/or promote Bill's legacy. Priority will be given to those requests that incorporate subjects in which Bill expressed interest, including but not limited to ancient literature and philosophy, interconnections between Greek and Asian thought, rhetoric and debate, catastrophism, poetry, translations of ancient literature, drama and film with topics that reflect classic themes, music and dance. Please be as specific as possible.
The application should also include:
● a paragraph on your relationship to Bill (e.g, include the institution at which you knew Bill, names of courses taken, and dates). If you did not take a specific course, please describe how Bill was an influence in your studies and growth.
● timeline for the project (please include target finish date and milestones if the project is extended over one year)
● budget (provide details for time and expense and any other expected sources of funding)
It is expected that project support will range between $500 and $10,000. If the project will take place over two years or the budget exceeds $5,000, half of the grant will be awarded in year one and the remainder upon completion and submission of a report.
A final report on the use of the funds is to be submitted no later than three months after the project's completion.
Proposals for new projects will be given priority. Previous awardees will be considered only after the successful completion of the initial project.
