While speciation involves the isolation of (genetic) information between two groups, the amount of isolation within and among individuals in these groups may be heterogeneous, so that some individuals and genetic factors are more ‘isolated’ than others. To understand how the process of speciation works, it is important to appreciate the influence of external (environment, ecology) and internal (epistasis, linkage disequilibrium) forces that may encourage or discourage variation in isolation. Hybrid zones represent arenas where isolation is incomplete. Therefore, these systems can be informative for investigating how speciation works “in action.” I will describe two hybridizing cricket systems that present different pathways through the process of speciation.https://bard.zoom.us/j/84048679664?pwd=cm5EK0wwenN1a1pJUlE1by9UZ0pJQT09
