From the Hanser Berlin website:
Whether in Damascus or in Berlin, no matter what language – writing has always been vital for Sam Zamrik. This volume bears witness to this, with the introduction of a poet who has passed through many hells and lost almost everything, including his own identity: "I am not". But the losses are offset by an untouchable wealth: a language that knows many pitches, from the solemnity of the Song of Songs to heavy metal heaviness. In sometimes baroque, sometimes laconic images, Zamrik finds expression for war and flight, for homelessness and loneliness, non-existence and not being seen. In doing so, he transforms the "I am not" into an "I am" that can be heard from afar: Here is a poet who suffers, accuses, hopes and loves - with a wisdom and energy that is as touching as it is impressive.
From the Archäologie des Verlusts webste:
We lose umbrellas and people. We are losing rituals and customs, scriptures and languages. We lose our nerve and our sanity.
The theme of loss is omnipresent and virulent. [...] Against the background of these considerations, we are convinced to connect to relevant social discourses with artistic-performative acts. At the same time, considering the themes outlined from the perspective and methods of an “archeology of loss” is innovative and promises unexpected works and controversial positions that can be discussed and argued about.
