Colombia’s civil war lasted more than 50 years. It resulted in approximately 262,197 deaths, 80,154 forced disappearances, and 15,687 sexual assaults, leaving 7,305,936 people internally displaced. Oscar Bernal will present new data on mental health inequalities in the heavily war affected department of Meta before and after the 2016 peace agreement.3:10 pm – 5:30 pm EDT/GMT-4
Oscar Bernal, a physician and public health specialist, is professor of public health at University of the Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, and visiting professor at Boston University. He serves as a consultant on health systems and primary health care for the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the OECD, WHO/PAHO, and the Global Fund. He has worked in more than 20 countries, including Djibouti, Costa Rica, Ghana, and Mauritania.
