Stabilizing the climate requires a rapid transition from the fossil fuel energy system to a new system based on renewable energy, storage and electrification of transportation, heating and cooling, and industrial power. Rewiring the world with clean energy in three decades is the biggest collective human project ever attempted, and governments around the world, including at the state and federal level in the US are experimenting with a variety of industrial policy strategies to achieve the decarbonization goal. How did past policy get us to the point that decarbonization is feasible? And what strategies are now in play for transformation across the next decade?
